Car parking charges up for debate

PARKING charges in Amersham and Chesham are up for discussion again later this week.

Chiltern District Council had announced a consultation period to investigate the possibility of introducing fees for parking spaces throughout the district.

The council proposed to abolish free on-street parking areas in order to make parking enforcement easier.

Following the consultation, it was agreed not to introduce charges in the Chalfonts and Great Missenden.

But a final decision on whether to do the same in the two main towns in the Chiltern district has not yet been made.

Following the announcement not to introduce the charges in the villages, Councillor Davida Allen said it would be "unfair" to implement charges in the towns.

The matter will be discussed by the council's Housing and Planning Overview Committee on Thursday evening.

Recommendations from Thursday's meeting will then be put forward for discussion by the council's Cabinet at a later date.

A question and answer section dealing with queries on parking charges has been put up on the council's website at www.chiltern.gov.uk.
