Bus drivers cause traffic congestion

BUS drivers have been bringing traffic to a standstill in Marlow by waiting in a busy thoroughfare.
The drivers wait in a spot in Quoitings Square in Oxford Road.
However, this causes traffic to filter back onto West Street. According to a local business this is causing major traffic congestion.
Alison platt is the daughter of Jim Platt, who owns Platts garage on the junction of West Street and Oxford Road.
She says that there are frequent problems. She claims that last Wednesday a bus was blocking traffic for around 10 minutes, preventing a delivery driver from getting past.
She said: "Last week was an absolute sham. The bus driver even refused to reverse slightly to let this lorry driver through.
"It caused absolute gridlock. It's a stupid place for them to use as their waiting area.
"It causes a lot of trouble for our business as well."
Linsey Frostick, spokesman for Arriva, said: "We regularly remind all of our drivers that they should switch off their engines if they are going to be stationary for more than 3 minutes and not loading passengers.
"In addition to this we frequently post staff notices in our bus garages.
"For journeys that terminate at Marlow, drivers are currently using Quoitings Square, to wait there time, however this is to be moved to be at Spinfield Lane in the near future."

I would understand if a bus driver decided to block the High Street, as cars regularly park in the 'bus stop' near the old post office.
Although, I must admit, I've yet to see a bus park there.

...Of course as soon as I got bored and went to cycle past he pulled out.
At the next stop I sat by his window whilst he booked in the passangers, so I could have a word. When he had them all onboard he turned to me and said, rather beligerently "Yeah, and what do you want."
he was rather surprised by the mouthfull he got back.

In cases like that, CCTV evidence should be used to ban from driving larger vehicles permanently. Such drivers have particular responsibilities on the road and must have the right temperament for the job.

You would all soon moan if they didnt wait and shot through your stop further down the road early and you missed the bus. How dare you call them "jobsworths", at least they do work, and are not unemployed eating all our taxes. Have you lot got nothing better to do with your time. This article is about the mayhem that the buses stopping where they do cause, this has been looked into and they will now be stopping in Spinfield Lane.
They provide an important public service that without would leave an awful lot of people stranded. Be grateful. But then I guess that is too much to ask for.

The complaint is about the traffic being blocked (says nothing about the engine) and Arriva respond with a stament about there policy on how long the engine should be allowed to run if the bus is stopped.
I do find it slighly ironic that is it a private transport provider complaining about a public transport provider.
