Bride gets on high horse for dream wedding
BRIDE Katie Woods spent hours riding her horse around her stables wearing layers of nets and petticoats while her father learned how to ride from scratch in preparation for her dream wedding day.
Crowds lined the streets to see the horse-mad 26-year-old arrive to wed sweetheart David Rendell at St Margaret's Church in Tylers Green on her horse Benson on Saturday. The wedding was followed by a huge reception for family and friends in marquees set up in a stable menage in Goodwood Stables, Hammersley Lane.
Katie, who works on a horse stud, rode astride her beloved rescue six-year-old pure bred Connemara pony, who also looked stunning with daisies threaded through his tail and mane for the big day.
Katie was accompanied by niece Jessica Wood who rode to the church on her tiny pony 'Dinky' while brave Dad Michael, who sacrificed hours of practice in the saddle so he could also give his daughter away on horseback, also rode alongside.
Proud mum Jane Wood, of Chilton Close, Tylers Green, said: "Right from the moment they decided to get married Katie wanted to ride him to the church. Nothing was going to put her off. She is crazy about horses - always has been since she was a girl. We thought she was going through a phase but it never ended."
She added: "Katie has three horses but she chose Benson as he is her favourite. He came from the RSPCA as a rescue horse six years ago. She is very close to him. He was almost wild when she first got him. It was a lot of hard work but worth it as the whole day was just gorgeous."
Katie started riding when she was a pupil at Tylers Green School when she was eight-years-old.
The happy couple met when Katie left Pipers Corner School to study equestrian science and business at a college nine years ago where David was studying farming.
