TWO Dr Who nuts have been filmed by the BBC for a new show about the sci-fi favourite.

Friends Tom Rees-Kaye and Tony Coburn are set to star in Totally Dr Who, a kids' programme about fanatical fans of the hit television show.

Tom and Tony, who both go to Sir William Ramsay School, Rose Avenue, Hazlemere, are so crazy about the scarf-wearing Timelord that they shoot their own Dr Who-style films on a video recorder, taking on the roles of the aliens the doctor encouters.

Tom, 13, from Misbourne Avenue, High Wycombe, said: "The BBC said they were impressed with what we have been doing. They filmed us making our own shows and then putting them onto the computer. They haven't told us anything about the series. I don't think we are supposed to know yet."

BBC researchers chose Tom after reading in Midweek's sister newspaper, the Bucks Free Press, about a full-scale Tardis his parents gave him in December to add to his Dr Who collection.

In the television series Dr Who uses the Tardis to travel through time and space in his battles with arch enemies the Daleks.

The 8ft replica, built by a family friend to look like an old-fashioned police phone box, takes up pride of place in Tom's back garden. He said: "I wanted one for ages and it was a lifelong dream come true."

Tom first got hooked on the time traveller after watching a Dr Who film eight years ago.

He said his favourite Dr Who was Tom Baker and was impressed with Christopher Eccleston, who played the doctor in the last series.

Tom's mum Jan Kaye, 42, said: "It is not really something I am overly keen on myself, although I thought the last series was quite good."

Totally Dr Who is set to hit our screens next month ahead of the new series of Dr Who, starring David Tennant in the leading role.
