Beach wedding for yogi Claire

NATIONAL press were out in force to capture former Bourne End yoga instructor, and columnist, Claire Agate's beach wedding.

The 30-year-old, who was also a champion gymnast, married IT engineer John Stewart at two ceremonies in their new home in Malaysia.

Claire moved with her fiance to Asia at the end of last year and secured a job with a top yoga training centre called Yogazone.

She is now a sought after instructor and regular columnist on a national newspaper in Malaysia where she gives tips about yoga. Another national newspaper called the New Straits Times sent a photographer to her beach wedding on the romantic island of Redang and reported the news.

As a ballerina and gymnast in her early years, Claire developed an interest in the effects of exercise, parti-cularly the benefits of stretching and strengthening the body. She ran her own yoga business prior to moving to Malaysia and was featured on television.

With a teaching diploma in Hatha from the British School of Yoga, she has been one of the rare few to receive guidance from the Father of Ashtanga yoga, Pattabhi Jois and teacher training from world renowned David Swenson from whom she has developed her detailed knowledge of Ashtanga Yoga.

A formal legal ceremony was held in Malaysia's capital city, Kuala Lumpur in the surroundings of Carcosa Seri Negara, the former home of the Governor of the Straits Settlements on Monday, September 18 after the beach ceremony.

Claire's parents are Bourne End accountant Mike Agate of Blind Lane and his ex-wife Su Peckover of Meare Estate, Wooburn. Her stepmother is Free Press business columnist Carla Delaney.
