Witham: Morrisons submits plans to extend store

Morrisons hopes to find out early next year if its plans for an extended supermarket will get the go ahead.

The retailer has submitted a planning application to enlarge the floor space at its store in Braintree Road, Witham, from 4,341m² s to 6110m².

Braintree Council had rejected its first application in March, fearing it would have an adverse impact on the rest of the town centre.

But Morrisons, which hopes to create 50 jobs, claims the new-look supermarket will not compete with other shops and will keep shoppers in town instead of travelling out to Colchester and Chelmsford.
