A DAY centre which cares for almost 30 elderly people in and around Flackwell Heath has recently appointed a new chairman and has said without more volunteers they may have had to close.

The Flackwell Heath and Loudwater Age Concern group recently appointed Jacqui Ricketts as the new chair of the group at their AGM earlier this month.

She said: “This group caters and offers a place to go for elderly people over the age of 60.

“It was only when new volunteers stepped forward that we were able to add a bit of stability to the group.”

The Flackwell Heath Age Concern company will celebrate its 30th anniversary later this year.

As well as offering clients an afternoon meal they also provide games, quizzes and tea.

They operate from a Monday to Thursday every week for about six hours each day.

One of the clients, Edie Cubbage, said: “It is great here. It is nice to have a place where we can socialise and actually go somewhere and do something.

“I started coming here about two years ago, before that I would just spend seven days sat at home doing nothing, staring at my four walls.”

The Day Centre on Common Road, always requires more volunteers to help out. If you would like to help, please see the manager in their office.
