A COMMUNITY group which has been at the heart of a Bucks village for 30 years celebrated the anniversary of their opening last month.

Age Concern which was recently saved from a possible closure when a new chairman stepped forward, held their celebration in the Flackwell Heath Day Centre on Wednesday, September 17.

More than 70 people celebrated with the care company who cater for elderly people throughout the district, four days a week.

The manager of Age Concern, who has been involved in the organisation for more than 10 years, said she thinks the group have achieved a lot.

Jacky Retallack-Hall: “I think it is quite an achievement to still be a big part of the community for thirty years and we are hoping we will still be here in another 30 years.

“I think a lot of people know we are here but not many know of all the work we do. We have about 14 people who come here, some for four days a week.

“The great thing about it here is we can offer some of our clients transport into the building and it is great for people to interact with new people.

“We are based in Flackwell Heath and Loudwater, but we are much bigger than that, we do have clients in Beaconsfield, Bourne End and High Wycombe too.”

She added: “It was a really nice afternoon, we decided to have an afternoon tea and everyone really seemed to enjoy the day.

“As well as our clients we had other friends of Age Concern join us. We had cakes sandwiches and a raffle amongst other things.”

There had been concerns earlier this year that Age Concern would not be able to continue their service when their former chairman stepped down but they now have new members on their board of trustees.
