A headteacher was gunged by three of his students last week as a school in Flackwell Heath celebrated raising more than £1,500 for Comic Relief.

Gareth Drawmer has only been in the position of principal at Juniper Hill since September 2014, but the excited pupils appeared more than happy to soak him in a cocktail of slime and gunk.

The three children who had raised the most money before Red Nose Day were given the opportunity to take centre stage and use an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to tip a bucket of gunge onto their teacher.

Mr Drawmer said: “Red Nose Day does so much good for people in this country and Africa, and as a school we wanted to do something to contribute to that.

“I said to the children that if they were collectively able to raise more than £1,000 for the charity I would let the three best fundraisers gunge me.

“They did really well and as of today [Friday, March 13] we have raised £1651.46.”

He added: “The fundraising offer was open to staff as well but they obviously didn’t feel so strongly about gunging me.”

The whole school witnessed the moment Mr Drawmer was gunged by the three happy winners, with the playground in raptures after each bucket was emptied on top of him.

Year 1 pupil Lily Griffiths, who raised £114.90, was the best fundraiser, with Claudia Webster from Year 4 coming third having raised £100 with big sister Evie Webster (Year 5) finishing second after raising £1 more than her sibling.
