A FAMOUS Gerrards Cross-born actor became the face to launch a thousand letters last month as the anniversary of his birth was commemorated with a special postage stamp.

One of the most popular stage and big-screen actors between the 1950s and 1970s, the 100th anniversary of Kenneth More’s birthday was given a stamp of approval across the UK.

The Royal Mail postmark appeared on letters delivered nationwide on Saturday, September 20.

The actor who was born in Gerrards Cross is well known for his performances in The 39 Steps, The Forsyte Saga and as Second World War pilot Douglas Bader in Reach for the Sky.

More is one of the individuals commemorated on Royal Mail’s ‘Remarkable Lives’ stamps set.

The set comprises 10 stamps and recognises people who have made a significant contribution to British society.
