Pupils at a village primary school have had a lot to get excited about in recent weeks with a special guest bringing one of the London 2012 Olympic torches into class for them to look at.

Chiltern District Council vice-chairman Mimi Harker visited Gayhurst School, in Bull Lane, Gerrards Cross, on Wednesday and brought along her own replica torch which she received after performing as a Games Maker.

The excited youngsters were encouraged by Cllr Harker to find their own passion and get involved with the community.

Although the London Olympic Games was almost three years ago the Year 6 students were said to be very excited by the talk.

Young mathematicians have also been busy at Gayhurst this month with students taking part in a challenge against 18 other schools.

The annual competition saw the group put through their paces with sequencing, domino calculations and mental arithmetic amongst other trying tests.

Once all the scores were added up The Beacon School won the Nonagon Section and Woodside Primary came top in the Hexagon Section.

The 'Gayhurst II' team finished in third place overall.
