A RESIDENTS society is concerned about the potential congestion on Cock Lane and Hammersley Lane, if housing went ahead in the area.

In the Local Plan for the Wycombe District there are a number of sites around the bottom of those two roads earmarked for development.

The plan is looking at where new homes and businesses can go in the district- 500 to 700 homes need be built a year by 2031.

The Penn and Tylers Green Residents Society is holding a meeting at St Margaret's Parish Hall in Tylers Green on Thursday night at 7.30pm.

Gill Markham, from the society, said: "I think what's going on at the moment is residents are now realising the implications of what these proposals might mean.

"They have started thinking about how the number of houses will have an impact on the roads.

"It is congested enough now, let alone when we have houses at the bottom of Hammersley Lane."

Four reserve sites have been highlighted in the plan. These sites have been identified in previous plans to help cater for future growth and haven't been built on before.

They include Gomm Valley- just off Gomm Road- with the potential for 400 new homes; Abbey Barn South (450 homes); Abbey Barn North (75 houses) and Terriers Farm in Hazlemere (400 homes).

The other part of the consultation is for a business development on the M40 between High Wycombe and Flackwell Heath with a new 'Junction 3A'.

Gill said: "That would link to the A40 somewhere at the bottom of Hammersley Lane and Cock Lane.

"Residents are concerned there will be a rat run through Penn and Tylers Green."

A planning officer will be talking at the meeting with the chance to ask further questions.

Gill added: "We are looking for all residents to come along to the meeting- it is important for them to hear what the planning officer has to say.

"I think we are really concerned about the potential congestion - we can almost see gridlock on the A40."

The meeting in on Thursday at 7.30pm at St Margaret's Parish Hall in Tylers Green.
