A SCOUT group celebrated the £50,000 renovation of its HQ with a party.

More than 100 parents and children went to the First Holmer Green Scout Group's HQ in the village last Wednesday.

There is now more activity space, which has doubled in size, a new kitchen, toilets and storage areas.

Group scout leader, Neil Spencer CBE, said: "I joined scouting in 1949. I joined this group in 1977- the year the old building was put up.

"Now, 37 years on, I am seeing the new building take place, which will provide for the next generation of children."

The building has not been updated for 37 years. The money came from fundraising and a number of grants.

Ex leader Pat Montague officially opened the place at the event last Wednesday. He had his son and grandson there, who is now one of the Beavers colony.

Children from every section gave a presentation and explained what the new facilities meant to them.

Thank you badges were given to David Edwards, who managed the building work, and Linda Meatyard, treasurer.

Lynn O'Regan also stepped down as secretary after eight years.

There are five sections which use the hall- two Beaver colonies, two cub packs and one Scout troop.

The venue will also be available for community use.

A new support team is needed to manage the HQ. Call Neil on 07799 140802.
