A BURGLAR who drove into the front of a shop in Hazlemere in an attempt to steal cigarettes has been sentenced to 32 months in prison.

Lee Manners, 26, from Swan Road, Iver was sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court on September 26 after he pleaded guilty earlier last month.

On August 29, Manners drove a Peugeot 206 into the front doors of The Co-operative in Park Parade, Hazlemere before trying to steal cigarettes.

He was arrested nearby shortly afterwards and charged on the same day.

He has been given 30 months in prison for burglary with intent to steal and two months in prison for driving while disqualified, to be served consecutively.

He has also been disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay a £120 victim surcharge.

Investigating officer, PC David Cannon from High Wycombe CID, said: "I hope that this sentence serves as a deterrent to would-be criminals. Manners was arrested shortly after the incident in Hazlemere and this conviction will hopefully set local residents’ minds at rest knowing that this burglar is now behind bars."
