AFTER confessing his love for Danny Dyer and British crime culture during a train journey, a comedian who used to live in High Wycombe will not be pulling any punches with his new action packed stand up tour.

James Mullinger is currently living in Canada with his wife and two children, but despite being overseas and a self-professed feminist his obsession with British ‘hard men’ has never wavered.

He is now looking forward to bringing his fifth solo tour back to the UK, concluding with a special night at his home town theatre, Norden Farm Centre for the Arts in Maidenhead.

The comic said: "I’ve always thought there is something inherently funny about the British obsession with hard men and crime culture - the Krays, the Richardsons, the Essex Boys and why a middle class feminist like myself is obsessed with it.

"I’m not hard at all but I find the whole crime thing fascinating and think that it’s all a bit laughable. But I never could figure out a way to do it as a stand up show.

"But on a train back from Birmingham last year, I was sitting with my director Harry and comedian Tony Law, who is also obsessed with this stuff, and I was riffling on (about) Sons of Anarchy and my love for Danny Dyer and he was in hysterics.

"As he is one of the funniest comedians in the country I thought that was a good sign. When we got off the train, he said to me ‘You have got to do a show on that’."

He added: "It is a series of tales about how pathetic I am, all the embarrassing things that have happened to me when I have tried to be hard, and how I stalked Danny Dyer and what happened when I met him.

"The stories are all really out there but all totally true. You will not believe what you are hearing but it’s true.

"Like all stand up shows it’s all about the gags and I think I’ve packed in more this time than any other tour I have done."

After months of hard work writing and preparing for his new tour, James, who was brought up in Maidenhead, cannot wait to perform at Norden Farm.

He said: "I was born in Taplow and grew up in Maidenhead so I always loved Norden Farm which is why I always end my tours there.

"I want the final night of the tour to be in the most special venue. Norden Farm is amazing, the people there are lovely and the audiences are fantastic."

However, despite looking forward to returning home, James admitted touring isn’t always a barrel of laughs.

He said: "Well it’s not all party, party, party. It’s hard work but I love it. I love what I do so it is a joy travelling around England and meeting great people with the same sense of humour as me."

James will be performing at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Friday, November 7 at 8pm.
