SHORT term alcohol bans have been placed on two High Wycombe shops.

Wycombe District Council has suspended the premises licence for Grosik in Castle Street and the Anatolia Food Centre in Frogmoor.

Anatolia will be unable sell booze for one month after a joint raid by Trading Standards and Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs earlier this year found it was selling illegal tobacco.

Grosik has been banned from stocking alcohol for three months after investigators found illegal tobacco and alcohol in a hidden store.

Cllr Jean Teesdale, WDC’s Cabinet Member for Environment, said: "The sale of illegal alcohol and tobacco not only breaches licence conditions, but potentially puts members of the public in harm’s way.

“I hope the suspension of these licences sends a clear message to all licence holders within the Wycombe district that undermining the law is a serious matter that will not be tolerated."

The suspensions came into effect on September 4.
