The former head boy of a Wycombe grammar school who is now studying at Oxford University gave a special talk to prospective medics on Friday.
Naeem Iqbal, who is training to be a doctor, left the Royal Grammar School, in Amersham Road, in 2011.
The former head boy returned to talk to Year 11 and Year 12 students last week.
Naeem, who is in his fourth year of medicine, said: “I come back about once a year to talk with students.
“It’s important that I come back because of the support that RGS provided me. There is an excellent old boys programme and if that is the reason I am at Oxford then I have a responsibility to provide the same to my peers.
“I don’t think I would have ended up at Oxford if it was not for RGS. They really provided me with so many opportunities. The confidence they instil in their students really allows them to shine.”
Naeem was joined by his friend and fellow Oxford medic, Masanori Watanabe.
Headteacher, Roy Page, said: “We value the old boys coming back whatever their subjects.
"It’s important to inspire the boys to realise what they can achieve.”
Head of careers, Lucy Sowah, said: “When they (the students) meet people at university they suddenly realise how many opportunities they had at this school.
"That is part of why they come back. They want to come back and do the same for the next generation.”
