Update: attempted kidnapping in High Wycombe was a “random” attack.

A woman survived an attempted kidnapping in High Wycombe last night after fighting free as a man grabbed her from behind, police have confirmed.

The 46-year-old was left “shaken” following the incident, which happened in Cressex Road, near the junction with Limmer Lane, at about 9.45pm.

Shortly before the attempted kidnapping, a white van pulled up next to her as she was walking along the road and the driver offered to give the victim a lift.

However, she declined the offer and continued to walk.

She was then approached from behind and a man attempted to pull her backwards.

She shouted out and managed to struggle free before running into Booker Place. The van then drove off towards Lane End.

The van is described as being the size of a Ford Transit, white in colour. It is believed to have three large red letters on the side, around 2ft in size, with smaller blue writing underneath.

The offender was a white male in his thirties and of medium build. He was wearing dark clothing.

Det Con Matt Kent from Wycombe Force CID said: “Clearly the victim was left very shaken by what happened to her.

“We have a lot of work going on to locate this offender, but we still need to hear from anyone who may have seen a van like this acting suspiciously in this area or witnessed the incident.

“Officers regularly patrol this area and will continue to do so. If you have any concerns at all, please don’t hesitate to approach them.”
