Fresh reports of a council telephone scam have surfaced, after a warning about the hoax calls last week.

Wycombe District Council are warning residents that scammers are calling from withheld numbers and from the 01273 Brighton code claiming to be from 'Wycombe Council' or 'Wycombe Town Council'.

The callers then ask if the person they are speaking to has had an accident in the last two years, or if a family member has had an accident.

And in one reported call, the scammers asked the resident for their bank account details.

The scam was first reported last week, but council officials have confirmed the practice is continuing.

Council advice is not to answer any questions and to end the call immediately.

If the bogus callers have given you information which may help trace them, please report it to Thames Valley Police or to the council.

Similar scam alerts have been reported by Dorchester Town Council in recent weeks.
