Friends and family will celebrate the life of a teenager who died in a motorbike accident as they unveil a bench in his memory this weekend – 24 hours after what would have been his 19th birthday.

Lloyd Mitchell died after the off-road dirt bike he was driving near the Rye, collided into a car on the junction of Chestnut Avenue and Bassetsbury Lane in September 2014.

It would have been the teenagers birthday today and his mother, Paula Nathan, says they hope to commemorate his life at the special event from 2pm tomorrow.

His close friends and relatives have maintained a tribute to him at the roadside following his death and Wycombe District Council recently agreed for a memorial bench to be positioned on the Rye as a more permanent honour.

Ms Nathan said: “We are really pleased with the bench. I have seen people using it already, which is really nice.

“We have got a few things planned for Saturday and there will be a few people talking about him, as well as releasing all the balloons.

“We would have done it on his actual birthday but instead we are all going to one of his favourite restaurants in Milton Keynes, where he had his 18th.”

She added that hopefully all the people who knew him would turn up on the afternoon.

After his death an inquest heard Lloyd failed to stop at give way lines in Chestnut Avenue before colliding with a car, but Coroner Richard Hulett concluded by saying they will never know why he misjudged the road.

And last month Ms Nathan started a petition to make changes to the road layout, which she believes is hazardous because of poor visibility.

The online petition has been signed by about 320 people, and numerous paper petitions have been given to shop keepers and businesses across Wycombe.
