The 30-year-old victim of a hit-and-run crash in High Wycombe last week has spoken of the moment he feared for his life.

Peter Pisani from Fryers Lane, Wycombe, was knocked over by a car as he crossed West Wycombe Road at about 7.10pm on Thursday, February 12.

He was quickly rushed for emergency surgery at Stoke Mandeville Hospital amid fears his leg may have to be amputated after being hit.

The accountant, originally from Italy, has now begun his recovery from three broken ribs, a seriously injured leg and a fractured eye socket.

He said: “I never lost consciousness but I just found myself on the ground and realised I am in the middle of the road.

“The first thing which came to my mind is ‘these traffic lights are going to turn green and I am going to get hit by the next car and it will finish me off’.”

Peter was struck by the car after he says he waited for traffic lights to turn red at a pedestrian crossing near the BP garage in West Wycombe Road.

Peter’s mother has been looking after him following the crash and she has spoken of her gratitude to two members of the public who tried to help him.

He added: “Usually I just look on both sides of the road and when it’s clear I cross, but on Thursday night it was fairly busy and I just thought at the petrol station I will press the button, the traffic lights will go red and I will cross.

“I did all of that and I saw the car on the other side stopping so I started to walk and then I turned around and see the other car hit me.”

“There was a paramedic immediately on the spot and he started cutting my clothes off and he was like ‘there is so much blood I cannot tell what is going on’.

“That is the reason I went to Stoke Mandeville because they thought I was in a critical condition because of all the blood – I was told there were 12 doctors waiting for me to arrive.

“They were all really concerned about the leg and they told me the best scenario was they were just going to put a titanium rod through my right leg, which they did.

“Second option was they can’t do much so they do some nails and a metal cast, but they said if things got worse they were going to have to chop off my leg.

“Until the last minute of actually operating they didn’t know exactly what they were going to do, I was happy to wake up and see the leg the way it is.”

A section of West Wycombe Road was closed following the collision until about 10.30pm that evening while police carried out investigation.

It is believed the driver of the car then went in the direction of Wycombe town centre.

Police are currently appealing for witnesses to come forward. If you have information contact officers on 101 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www. crimestoppers-uk.org
