Five people were rescued when a fire broke out at a house in High Wycombe in the early hours of the morning.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in a multiple occupancy house on West Wycombe Road at 2.13am, saying the fire was in a bedsit.

Three fire engines from High Wycombe and a crew from Beaconsfield rushed to the emergency, rescuing four men and a women from the burning building.

One of the men was taken to hospital suffering from the effects of breathing in smoke and the house was severely damaged by heat and smoke.

Firefighters used one hose reel and breathing apparatus to douse the flames.

Paramedics treated a man who was suffering from the effects of breathing in smoke.

The British Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service vehicle based at Marlow Fire Station attended to help look after the people involved.

A joint investigation between Thames Valley Police and Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue is now underway.

It is the second time this year firefighters have been called to a serious fire on West Wycombe Road, with a bedsit in a three-storey house badly damaged in a blaze last month.
