A new recycling exhibition was opened by the Mayor of High Wycombe on Friday.

The R3: Reduce Reuse Recycling exhibition is on at the Wycombe Environment Centre, in the Chilterns Shopping Centre.

High Wycombe’s mayor, Councillor Khalil Ahmed, congratulated Frances Alexander and her team of volunteers on the thought-provoking display.

Councillor Ahmed said: “It’s good to encourage people to recycle and reuse materials.

“The exhibition informs people why and how to do this.”

Derek Johnson, the trustee who organised the theme, said: “If I picked up a hundred £10 notes, and put them through a shredder, you would think I was crazy.

“But it is estimated that most families of four waste £50 to £60 of food they buy every month.

“I have cut my water bill from over £430 down to £125 by getting a meter and then being a bit more careful. It adds up - why waste money? You might as well save it and be good to the environment too."

People are being asked to donate their old mobile phones to the centre so the material can be recycled.

The centre is open Monday to Saturday, between 10am and 4pm and on Sunday between 11am and 4pm.

The exhibition features the work of the Central-Aid Furniture Project, High Heavens Recycling Centre, Wycombe Resource Zone and Chiltern Wood Recycling.

Every Wednesday afternoon for the duration of the recycling exhibition, if there is a minibus-load of people, volunteers will organise a tour of these facilities. For more information email office@ecobuzz.org.uk
