Thieves burgled a house in High Wycombe and then set it on fire while the owners were away enjoying their honeymoon.

Burglars ransacked the property in Beech Avenue, stealing the owners’ belongings before setting the house alight.

Fortunately, the fire burnt itself out before damaging any other properties nearby.

The incident occurred at some point between Thursday, March 5 and Thursday, March 19.

PC Richard Whitcombe, investigating officer from High Wycombe Local CID, said: “For the victims to arrive home from their honeymoon and find that their house had been broken into and set fire to was incredibly distressing for them.

“It is vital that we trace the people responsible for this crime. The time frame for when this may have happened is quite large, but I would urge anyone who noticed anything out of the ordinary in the area during this time to contact me. Even a small detail which they do not think is significant could be a huge help to this investigation.

“This appears to have been an isolated incident but officers will be in the area today, and anyone with any concerns should approach them, or alternatively call 101 for advice.”

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 101.
