London marathon runners from south Bucks will get a free ride into London later this month after a rail firm pledged to reward them for their efforts.

Chiltern Railways has agreed to give runners taking part in the race free travel on the day and is running extra early morning services stopping at High Wycombe, Beaconsfield and Gerrards Cross.

All participants will need to do is present their official marathon tabard or race number to ticket inspectors to take advantage of the offer on Sunday, April 26.

Jennifer Payne, Chiltern Railways’ customer service director said: “We are delighted to be supporting participants once again this year at this iconic event by giving them free travel.”

The extra early morning train from Banbury leaves at 06:40 and  High Wycombe at 07:22, Beaconsfield at 07:29, Gerrards Cross at 07:35 and arrives at London Marylebone at 07:58.

The extra early morning train from Aylesbury leaves at 07:00 and calls at Princes Risborough at 07:15, High Wycombe at 07:26, Beaconsfield at 07:33, Gerrards Cross at 07:39 and will arrives at London Marylebone at 08:06.
