CHRISTMAS carol singers raised hundreds of pounds for charity at the Mayor's annual festive sing-along – which left the Mayor with rosy red cheeks.

Because as the Wycombe Swan curtains came down on the performers of Sunday night's Festival of Carols, they fell on the head of red-faced High Wycombe Mayor Jane White.

The annual fund raiser featured Christmasy performances from the High Wycombe Male Orpheus Choir and the Marlow Town Band.

But pupils from Booker Hill School and toddlers from Busy Bees' Nursery stole the show with their Santa-themed carols.

Cllr White said the final money count had yet to have been taken, but programme sales on the night alone had raised more than £500 for the Mayor's Appeal.

She added: “It was a lovely night and very uplifting. The Swan was packed full of people and I was very proud of the performers, especially the children.

“At the end of the show, Santa said he wanted to say a few words.

“So we went to the front of the stage and as he reached to get a microphone, the curtain came down on my head, leaving Santa and the performers the other side.

“The crowd had a little giggle, it was funny and a little embarrassing but a very uplifting night.”
