FORMER High Wycombe Mayor Cllr Val Razzaq is quitting politics after becoming 'very disillusioned' over the community stadium.

Cllr Razzaq, who represents Booker and Cressex, has opted to follow close ally and fellow Conservative Cllr Darren Hayday in walking away from council life.

She will stand down at the upcoming May elections after eight years as a councillor.

She said: “I'm not standing for re-election, I'm very upset by the stadium business.

"I don't know why it has gone so far as this.”

She said she and Cllr Hayday, who is also qutting over the new ground, had been receiving 40 e-mails per day and letters from as far as Marlow, Frieth and Beaconsfield about the stadium.

Cllr Razzaq said she had come to feel “very disillusioned” with politics and was “saddened” she and Cllr Hayday had not had support from other council members over the issue.

Her late husband Mohammed Razzaq, also a former Mayor, would have been “proud” of her, she added.

Earlier today, another Tory, Cllr Jean Teasdale, broke party ranks by stating her own opposition to the project, saying she would put forward the views of her Lane End residents, who have been passionately against it.
