Man wielding knife raids Wycombe store Man wielding knife raids Wycombe store

A MAN wielded a knife and shouted at staff during an attempted robbery at a store in High Wycombe.

The man - dressed in all black clothes with his hands and face covered – lunged at staff during the raid at Disha Stores at 7.11pm on Sunday.

He demanded the employee hand over money but, because the worker was not immediately forthcoming with the cash, the man fled the Desborough Avenue store empty handed.

No-one was injured during the incident.

Det Con Richard Hobson said: “It appears there were lots of people around the area at the time so I would urge anyone in the vicinity of the store to please come forward as they may be potential witnesses.”

Witnesses are urged to contact police on the 24-hour non-emergency number 101.

This is why we need the death penalty back in place. The potential to kill someone by scum like him is very high due to raised adrenalin, the fact that they are undoubtedly on benefits thus have nothing to loose and the fact that a lot of would be raiders are on drugs. The death penalty would no doubt deter a good percentage of these could be killers.

You pair of nits, if the death penalty is such a deterrent why is there still so much crime in the good old U.S of A?

Er, because not all states have the death penalty?! Plonker!

the odd thing about the death penalty in the USA, some of the inmates on death row have a longer life expectancy than their friends outside of jail, such is the level of violence in gangs.

Which states do have the death penalty ? And are their murder ('homicide') rates less than the states that don't use the death penalty ?
.
That might be quite relevant to your case(s).
.
Adding unnecessary and unhelpful personal insults to comments does not persuade other people of your side of the argument , in my opinion. Ever.
.
Just give us the facts ; truthful statistics and numbers cannot lie and may give some perspective one way or the other.

And their lawyers live even longer (and more comfortably)

Don't worry - "nits" and "plonker" hardly make it into the "personal insults" category! If they'd said *@}+**> **$%*&, that would be different!

The point about the USA is a fair one but with the availability of guns over there and without the death penalty as a deterrent, perhaps the homicide rates would be much higher.

Also recent polls have suggested that the majority of UK public would back a return of capital punishment here. Unfortunately though, yet again the politicians assume they know what's best for us and will never allow it.

My apologies for causing any offence by using the word 'nit' iy was done in jest.
I still stand by my post that if the death penalty were such a deterrent then those countries that have it would have a considerably lower homicide rate than those who do not.I have yet to see any evidence of this, but I'll go and have a trawl.

Here yer go.....

A study published in the 'Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology' revealed that 88 percent of American criminologists believed that death penalty was not an effective crime deterrent. In fact, approximately 87 percent of the respondents of this study were of the opinion that abolition of death penalty would have no major impact on crime rates in the country as such.

A little more....

''The example of Canada wherein the homicide rate declined after abolition of death penalty in 1976 is often used by these people to support their opinion''

Can't find the actual survey for this one, but the statement comes from a reputable site. I'll keep looking,

What a nice, reasonable and intelligent chap you seem to be.
So state approved murder is just a way of culling 'scum' then.
What if the state makes a mistake?

Yes it's all fault of them there Statistics. They are just mere numbers after all ; not like real life.

Could it not also be true that the USA might have an even higher homicide rate if it had no death penalty as a deterrent?
The main problem there is likely to be the right to bear arms in my view. Remove arms, and perhaps the level of homicide might fall, though it's a bit like shutting the stable door etc.

I would say that the death penalty for this type of crime is a little heavy handed, however....

In my view, the issues which lead to people behaving like this need to be dealt with more firmly from the off - maybe if penalties in general were more of a worrying prospect they might think twice. Even if he did get caught (but he probably won't)the worst he will face is a slap on the wrist for doing something like this. I'm not suggesting that hands get removed or anything silly, but when the National press regularly remind the Country that we have no money, less police personnel on the street, less prison places and more and more serious criminals being let off with a preverbial clip round the ear; it's not a massive leap for chancers like this to think that it's worth taking the risk.

When the answer to the question "what's the worst that could happen?" is 'not a lot' we will end up with people trying for a quick buck and be damned with the consequences.

What ever the punishment , no criminal ever thinks of the consequences of their crime.
.
They have always thought they will get away with what they do. That's everywhere in the world.
.
Otherwise there wouldn't be any people without hands (or heads) or gassed or electrocuted or hung.
