VALUABLE items were stolen from a church in Penn after burglars forced open the doors.
Among the items taken from Holy Trinity Church are a communion cup and cover, a George I flagon, a George I dish, a Queen Anne Salver, a George II communion set, a George II communion cup and cover, a small paten, an Alms dish, a silver gilt chalice, a gilt ciborium, two electroplate candlesticks and £70.
The break-in was discovered on Monday morning and is believed to have taken place at some point after 5pm the previous day.
Thames Valley Police has today launched an appeal for witnesses to come forward.
Investigating officer PC Kim Twaite said: "Many of the stolen items were gifts to the church many years ago so are not only valuable, but a great loss to the church.
"I would like to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity around the church or if they know someone who has acquired such items."
Anyone with any information about the incident should contact PC Twaite on 101 or the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
