AFTER the Tour of Britain race saw Sir Bradley Wiggins shoot through the county on Friday,  MP Dominic Grieve got in on the action as he hopped in the saddle to complete a 50-mile cycle tour of his constituency for charity on Saturday.

Raising over £3000 for the Buckinghamshire Historic Churches Trust, the former Attorney General pedalled to the 36 participating churches in his electoral area.

A keen supporter of the trust, it was a return to the saddle four years since last taking up the challenge to generate cash for the churches fund.

And despite going into the challenge with little training, the MP was in a confident mood as he set out on Saturday morning alongside his son.

He said: "I’ve undertaken to try to get round every participating church in my constituency, there’s 36 in all which is 52 miles. I’ve raised about £3000 so far, I’m sure of that.

"It’s a really important trust, it gives money to churches irrespective of denomination. It raises money each year, I try to do is as often as possible but can’t manage it every year.

"I haven’t done any training as such, my son is very fit and I’m not, but as long as I start pedalling I’m sure I’ll get there!

"It’s such a lovely constituency to ride around, I’m very lucky. There’s one or two hills I’m not looking forward to though!"

Buckinghamshire Historic Churches Trust was founded in 1957 and has since given away nearly a million pounds for the preservation, repair, maintenance and upkeep of the fabric of churches and their buildings.

Starting at St Thomas Church in Holtspur, the day-long challenge took the MP to churches in Beaconsfield, Farnham Royal, Gerrards Cross, Iver Heath, Wexham, Stoke Poges, Farnham Common, Burnham and Dorney, before finishing up in Marlow.

Mr Grieve is no stranger to sponsored challenges, taking on the Gerrards Cross Fun in May.
