AN 88-YEAR-OLD man who is unable to take his bins out onto the street says he is ‘furious’ at bin men for continuing to ignore his collection.

Michael Lee, whose house is set back 400 yards off the road in Bovingdon Green near Marlow, has an agreement with the council for waste to be taken from outside his garage.

But his son Andrew says despite the pledge, there has not been a collection in over six weeks and is calling on the council to take action.

He said: "The council have an agreement that if you are old or infirm then they will collect and deliver bins to the door.

"Normally in the first week or so you would expect a couple of hitches, but it has been six weeks now and it’s just not reasonable.

"He can’t walk very well, that is why he got this service in the first place, and it’s difficult for me to get up there and do it for him as I’m away a lot.

"He is furious about this, really upset. He can’t be the only one who’s not receiving it either."

WDC is responsible for 325,000 collections every week, with 8,850 assisted collections for residents with mobility or other problems who are unable to take their bins out themselves.

The council admits a failure in service led to Mr Lee’s waste not being collected, apologising to him and saying they regret falling short of their intended standards.

The Joint Waste Team say they conducted a thorough investigation into its failings, making changes to the way the system works after the problems the pensioner suffered.

Communication problems with contractor Serco have now been fixed, the council says, and they have spoken with the crew responsible.

Council spokesman Sue Robinson said: "We would like to express our sincere apologies to the resident affected by this failure in service and have been working with our contractor to fully resolve it.

"Following this incident, our contractor Serco has conducted a thorough investigation which identified internal communication errors as the root cause of these missed collections.

"Serco has advised us that they have now reviewed their procedures and the relevant crews have been fully briefed and have put improvements in place where needed to prevent this happening in the future.

"The Joint Waste Team and our partners Serco again wish to express our regret at the inconvenience caused and apologise to the resident affected."
