CHANGES have been made to a controversial building project to replace an iconic Marlow business, which attracted criticism from neighbours.

Plans to demolish part of Jolliffe’s formal hire shop on Chapel Street and replace it with a modern corner housing block have undergone significant changes.

The proposed building’s height had been reduced to be in line with the listed building next door, and a corner column near the pavement has been removed.

Architects have also ‘generally amended the proportions of the various vertical elements to reflect better the adjoining street scene’.

The initial design drew strong objections from neighbours, who said the squared, modern design and metal materials was out of keeping with the character of the area.

Wycombe District Council is yet to rule on the application.
