A PLAN to create new housing next to a supermarket in Marlow was approved last night.

A row of six terraced town houses on Town Lane next to Sainsbury’s on West Street was given the green light by Wycombe District Council’s planning committee on Wednesday.

The new project will see two 2 bedroom houses of two storeys and four three bedroom properties of three storeys.

Neighbours had objected to the plans, with Elias Kheir, owner of the Cedar Coffee Shop on West Street, saying the lane was narrow and unsuitable for housing.

He said the spot had been used as parking for nearby business for years, and that the housing traffic would affect deliveries and rubbish collections.

But councillors ruled it could go ahead, after revised plans were submitted to allow more room for car parking.

The narrow lane links West Street to Riley Road, and the new plot will back directly on to the supermarket.
