THE great and the good of Marlow will be recognised at an awards evening this weekend.

On Saturday night, community radio station Marlow FM will announce the winners of its Hidden Gem gongs at The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Fieldhouse Lane.

The prizes are designed to celebrate the close-knit community in Marlow and recognise individuals, organisations and business for their efforts in aspects of town life.

There are numerous categories up for grabs at the station's big bash, with best pub or restaurant, sports team of the year, best teacher and outstanding service to charity among the titles to be announced.

New this year is a gong for the best eco-friendly project in the town, launched by environmentalist and DJ Dave Hampton.

Transition Town Marlow, Sandygate School and the ‘My Electric Avenue’ car project are some of the contenders for the new ‘Watt Next’ prize.

Guests will have a three course dinner in the Winterlake Suite before the awards presentation.

A not-for-profit station, Marlow FM is volunteer-run and has to raise money each year to stay on the air from its studios at Longridge Activity Centre.
