Changes to a controversial building project to replace a Marlow shop have come under fire from neighbours.

The plan to demolish part of Jolliffe’s on Chapel Street were lambasted when they first emerged in July, with fears the modern replacement block would not fit in with the surroundings.

But the revised plan, which reduces the height and does away with metal cladding, have still attracted objections from nearby neighbours.

Claremont Gardens resident Andrew Milsom, who takes issue with various parts of the design, said: "Good news, the Zinc cladding has been consigned to the bin but who would have thought it would be replaced with terracotta tiles.

"Hard to reminisce about other orange tiled buildings in Marlow as the applicant invites us to do."

Designers Brocklehurst Architects say the building plans are respectful to the historic area and that they must build for the future rather than mimic the past.

And the Wycombe-based firm insists the corner block will "form a focal point that befits the prominent corner location".

In total, the proposal would see two semi detached houses and three flats, with the existing listed part of the building turned into a four bedroom house.

Jolliffe’s has previously confirmed it had put the site up for sale and would look to relocate the business.

Wycombe District Council is yet to rule on the application.
