A WORKER from a Marlow solicitors got a shock as she neared the end of an epic fundraising walk last week - after paramedics told her had been hiking on a broken ankle for ten miles.

Heidi Ryan from Marlow was 24 miles into a 26-mile night walk with colleagues through the streets of London when she stopped due to the pain in her foot.

And after receiving medical attention on the course, the legal cashier was told she couldn’t continue after suffering a stress fracture in her ankle from the feat.

She said: "It was really tiring, and very painful of course. I was just passing the 10 mile mark and my ankle started playing up but I carried on for the next 16.

"The walk was all my idea and I roped everyone into doing it, so I didn’t want to back out, and it’s such a great cause.

"It turns out I was walking on a stress fracture, and it was the walking that did it. We all thought it would be fine, so we didn’t really do much training.

"They said I couldn’t continue and had to be taken to the finish by the paramedics!"

Heidi said she will now have to use crutches for the next few weeks while the injury heals.

An intrepid team of five from the West Street solicitors firm raised over £600 for Cancer Research at the Shine Night Walk through central London.

The fearless five set out at 9pm on Saturday night and completed the course at 7am the following morning.

After Heidi’s injury stopped her in her tracks, colleague Lisa McKay managed to carry the stricken team member for part of the remaining route.

Speaking on Monday morning after the all-night trek, legal assistant Louise Hazell said: "We have some extremely sore feet in the office today, but everyone made it in, albeit in flip flops and slippers!"
