THE familiar tones of Marlow’s brass band will ring out this Christmas after all, following a truce with the council.

Marlow Town Band said they felt snubbed by the town council after being told their services would not be needed for the annual Carols on the Causeway.

It looked as if the decades-old tradition could be under threat after the Salvation Army band were instead asked to do the honours for the family event.

But after meeting to discuss their differences, the band has agreed to perform for the festive favourite on December 18 after all.

The band’s Steve Parker said: "We’re very happy to be involved in Carols on the Causeway again, and in the other events organised by Marlow Town Council."

Town clerk Annie Jones said the band previously started at 7.15pm on the night but the council were keen to move the start forward to 6.30pm to attract more children.

But after agreeing to the later start, the band - formed in 1906 - will take to the stage as usual around the town Christmas tree on the Causeway.

Mrs Jones said: "We are delighted that Marlow Town Band can accommodate the earlier start time, and we are very grateful to the Salvation Army Band for their offer of help."

The brass musicians are also set to play at Marlow’s hugely popular Remembrance Day commemorations next month.
