SCOUTING royalty jetted into Marlow this month to oversee a special ‘time capsule’ ceremony at the town's newest care home.

The Right Honourable Michael Baden-Powell - grandson of Baron Robert Baden-Powell who founded the Scouting Movement in 1870 - officiated the occasion alongside Marlow scouts and Cliveden Manor residents.

The capsule contained items and artefacts relating to modern-day Marlow and its residents, for future generations to one day discover.

Stella Putt, General Manager at Cliveden Manor, said: "We were so pleased that the Baden-Powells were able to spare time in their busy schedule to come and meet our residents and also the local scouting groups.

"As part of the Marlow community, we are keen to forge links with our local groups and a time capsule is of interest to all generations. A great evening was had by all."

Mr Baden-Powell was visiting England with his wife Joan from Melbourne, Australia, when they were asked to lend a hand with the proceedings by fellow Freemason and Cliveden manor worker Peter Reade.

He was joined by beavers and scout troops from Marlow and the town's deputy mayor Bob Johnson.

The heir to the Barony of Baden-Powell is closely involved with the scouting movement started by his grandfather and helped scouts celebrate its centenary in 2007.

The ceremony also helped mark the centenary of World War One, with members of the Marlow Remembers WWI group involved with the burial.
