GOVERNORS, parents and teachers at a Marlow school say they are delighted with the turnaround after a recent Ofsted inspection found improvements across the board.

St Peter’s Catholic Primary School - which celebrates 40 years in Prospect Road this year - has been awarded a ‘good’ rating just two years after it was judged as ‘requiring improvement’.

In 2012 inspectors criticised its leadership team for failing to ensure high teaching standards and found pupils’ progress in maths and English was not good enough.

But after a raft of changes at the 180-pupil school and new systems in place, governors say they are delighted to have reversed the trend.

Vice chairman of governors Mike Jackson said: "A lot of work has been put in and continues to be put in so we are all very pleased.

"We are pleased to have taken it on board and moved on and we’re delighted with the support of parents during that time."

Changes include better systems to monitor teaching and pupil’s progress, as well as new facilities including a new outdoor space to meet strict criteria.

Headteacher Amanda McClusky, at the helm for a decade, has overseen the new regime.

Mr Jackson said a strong parents association has lent support in the form of fundraising and helping out in school.

And after a partnership with successful primary academy Chepping View in High Wycombe, he said a new long term plan is now in place to become an ‘outstanding’ school.

He said: "We do not rest on our laurels, we want to take the school further forward and as part of that we are working with Chepping View.

"They have been very helpful in getting us to identify what more we need to do to move towards becoming an outstanding school."
