AN IMPROVEMENT scheme for Marlow town centre could be on the cards after businesses voted to set up a similar project on the town’s industrial estates.

This month, firms in the Globe Park area agreed to form a Business Improvement District (BID) and take control of issues such as parking, public transport, security and image branding.

Each business pays into a central improvement fund, which could be worth over £1million.

And if the scheme is judged a success, another group could be set up in and around the High Street as a way of improving the area.

A BID was set up for High Wycombe town centre in 2012 as a way of encouraging growth in areas like Frogmoor, which saw an increasing number of empty retail units.

The suggestion for a town centre BID was put forward at this week’s Marlow Chamber of Commerce meeting.

District Councillor Alex Collingwood said there are no firm plans to follow suit in Marlow town centre as it is largely “self-sustaining” and doesn’t need intervention.

However, the former WDC leader said the Globe Park scheme will be monitored and said a town centre BID could become a reality.
