Clergy from a Marlow church say they are "incredibly proud" to have been awarded a £3,000 funding boost from a high street bank after a public vote.

Residents and churchgoers voted for Marlow All Saint's Church to receive the cash as part of the Lloyds Bank Community Fund.

Nominated by the Maidenhead branch, the church received 28.8 per cent of the in-branch vote, enabling church leaders to begin overhauling facilities such as the church toilets.

Team Rector, Reverend Dave Bull, said: "The Lloyds Bank Community Fund has already started to make a huge difference to All Saint's Marlow Church.

"It enables us to move further forward with our vision of making our building welcoming and accessible to all, improving facilities that are more appropriate for the communities we are working with."

The church team offers pastoral support to the community, and has strong links with local schools, hospitals and other community groups.

Kitchen and toilet facilities at the 19th century building are limited, serving a building which frequently holds services and events with more than 100 people inside.

Several times a year, the church is used at its full capacity of 450 people which Rev Bull said places a huge burden on existing facilities.

A huge fundraising effort allowed the church to completely revamp the entrance, spending £20,000 on disabled access and resources to be able to welcome a wider range of people.

Lloyds Bank’s fund was set up to help people across the UK to have a positive impact by giving grants to up to 1,400 local good causes in 350 places.

Bank customers chose the church as their number one cause, narrowly beating St John Ambulance, Windsor Horse Rangers and Maidenhead Sea Scouts, which will receive smaller grants.
