Cadets from Marlow pulled in a record amount in the run-up to Remembrance Day this year during their support for the Poppy Appeal.

At the 1811 Squadron Marlow Air Cadets’ annual dinner, Royal British Legion chairman Lt Col Shaun Murphy announced the cadets had raised £3934 for the charity so far this year.

Lt Col Murphy thanked the cadets for their hard work in collecting on the streets in sometimes very poor weather and at the same time presented an Affiliation Certificate to the Sqn.

The officer commanding 1811 Squadron, Flt Lt Simon Cook, said: "The Cadets made a huge effort for poppy appeal with three days of street collections and two evenings of door to door.

"I am very proud of them and they deserve all due recognition."

Lt Col Murphy announced last month a surge in donations for this year’s Marlow Poppy Appeal, following the huge crowds which gathered for the Remembrance Sunday parade on November 9.

Over £30,000 has already been banked since October, beating last year’s total for the whole year in just two months.

A series of promotions were announced at the cadets’ annual dinner at Bisham Abbey, with Cadet Sergeant Reno Roberts promoted to Flight Sergeant, Cadet Corporal Daniel Wallis-Banbury to Cadet Sergeant and Cadet Nick Humphries to Cadet Corporal.

In keeping with military tradition, the loyal toast was called for by the most junior member of the Squadron, Cadet Megan Phillips who joined in September.

The next entry date for new recruits to the squadron is in January 2015.
