A dazzling light display at a Marlow Bottom family home is once again brightening up the village, in what has become a Christmas tradition to raise money for charity.

More than 100 people turned out last week for the switch-on of the Shepherd family’s bill-busting display at their home on Hill Farm Road after news spread through social media.

Now in its 14th year, Jancis and Tony’s hobby is bigger and brighter than ever before, after the hard working pair added new roof lights and a new Christmas tree to the carefully choreographed display.

And with the Shepherd’s generating over £2,000 last year for charity, they have decided to name South Bucks Hospice as this year’s recipient as donations flood in online.

Jancis said: "It’s going absolutely amazingly this year. For the switching on ceremony I was expecting about 60 people but about twice as many turned up.

"I came home early to get things ready and there were people already waiting on the drive because they’d heard about it.

"The fundraising is going really well too, we want to add a text link to the online video so people can donate even if they’re not able to come down and see it for themselves."

Crowds gather regularly to see the choreographed light shows which play every few minutes, with children knocking on the family’s door eager to see the display set to Disney song ‘Let it Go’.

And with hundreds of bulbs to construct, erect and programme, Jancis said the festive hobby is becoming almost a year-round task for the dedicated enthusiasts.

"We have worked really hard on it this year. It’s certainly becoming a year-round hobby. In January you take them down, clean them and pack them away.

In February you start planning, and then by summer you have to start making the equipment and then start programming it all. It takes months but the result is phenomenal."
