AN INTERN will be drafted in to help a council boost its interaction with the public after a deal was struck with a university to install a student in the role.

Alice Versey, 21, who is studying BA (Hons) Public Relations and Marketing Communications at Buckinghamshire New University, is working as an intern one day a week at Marlow Town Council, helping with its PR and communications.

As well as website management and social media, Alice will help the authority in its ongoing bid to reach out further to the community.

Alice, who attended Princes Risborough School in Merton Road, Princes Risborough, said: “I am really excited about putting what I have learnt into practice and helping to enhance the council’s PR and communications.

“Local government is an area that requires a lot of communication and I am looking forward to bringing some new ideas. It’s a permanent role and Marlow Town Council has asked me to stay as long as I want.”

The internship opportunity was arranged after Marlow Town Council approached Greg Dooley, Lecturer in Business and Marketing at Bucks New University.

Marlow Town Council is currently compiling its Flooding Action Plan, which councillors hope will include improved communications with residents should there be a repeat of last year's flooding.

The reciprocal arrangement will also help Alice complete her end of year dissertation.
