Flood alerts have been issued for a stretch of the River Thames in South Bucks.

The Environment Agency (EA) alert was last updated today and covers the Thames from Hurley to Cookham including Harleyford, Bisham, Marlow and Bourne End.

It is the first of three levels of warning from the agency, and warns residents to “be prepared” for possible flooding to low lying areas and roads after recent heavy rain.

No properties are currently at risk.

The EA warning states: “Water levels on the River Thames remain high and are rising slowly in response to recent rainfall.

“Flooding of low lying areas and roads is possible. No property flooding is currently expected. The weather prospects are for showers to continue throughout today and over the weekend.”

It is the first flood alert in the area since April last year, after months of heavy rain caused widespread flooding throughout January, February and early March.

There is also an alert on the Thames for Henley, Remenham, Medmenham and its tributaries.

Marlow’s £6.5 million flood alleviation scheme was given the green light after funding was allocated late last year, and will eventually protect about 300 homes in Marlow.

But the EA estimates it will not be installed and operational until at least 2017.
