PARKING problems resurfaced once again when residents quizzed leading Marlow politicians last week - with one resident suggesting people are leaving the town as a result.

MP Dominic Grieve joined the chairman of Wycombe District Council Cllr Richard Scott and a number of high-profile figures on Saturday for the second Residents Forum, held at Age Concern in Glade Road.

Car parking was the main talking point during the hour-long meeting, with Cllr Scott suggesting a new multi-storey car park in Globe Park could help stop residential streets being overrun with workers' cars.

Kristine Kirby, of Claremont Road, said some people are resorting to moving out of the area.

She said: "There must be a way people in Marlow can live with this, we have people having valuations on their homes because they have had enough.

"In Claremont Road we already have a problem where employees on the High Street will not park on there because it takes money out of their pay packet, so they park in side streets and this is causing a real problem for people who live there.

"We are also getting to the situation where it’s not enough parking spaces for residents. I moved from Beaconsfield to Marlow partly because of the parking issues there, but it is now getting to the situation where I may have to leave Marlow too."

Replying for Bucks County Council, Cllr Scott said: "This has been an ongoing problem for three or four years and it is not an easy solution.

"We have visitors, residents and people who work here, and we do have a problem with people parking in the side streets because it’s cheaper for them.

"But there are a couple of things we are looking at. The district council has issued this new ANPR system in car parks and this identifies who is using them, and how long for.

"When we get all this information back in the spring we want to see if we can amend any of the tariffs to see if we can get more people to park in them."

Cllr Scott said the new Business Improvement District at Globe Park could result in low level multi-storey parking, to offer to employees on the industrial sites and beyond.

A long-awaited town parking study will get underway once data from the new ANPR system can be collated and analysed.
