Next month will see the closure of Marlow’s dedicated information centre after the council decided to move the service to the library.

Marlow Information Centre on the corner of High Street and Institute Road will shut its doors for good on Friday, March 20.

Wycombe District Council took the cash-saving decision to offer tourist information, council services and enquiries from a desk in the nearby library on Institute Road.

However, new benefit or housing claim applications can no longer be processed.

But council bosses say residents can still make benefit and housing enquiries and carry out document verification.

A similar move in Princes Risborough has attracted criticism from residents.

The town centre office will be marketed for a new business to take up the retail space, where WDC took up a 25 year lease costing £271,500, split with the Post Office next door.

Residents and business leaders in Marlow criticised the decision to downsize, but WDC leader Richard Scott insisted it made sense to share the space to cut taxpayer costs.

The telephone number 01628 483597 will remain the same, as will the email address marlow_office@wycombe.gov.uk

Opening times of the new service will be as follows:

  • Tuesday: 9:30am - 5:30pm
  • Wednesday: 9:30am - 5:30pm
  • Thursday: 9:30am - 5:30pm
  • Friday: 9:30am - 5:30pm
  • Saturday: 9:30am - 5:00pm
