A parking machine will be moved from High Wycombe to Marlow to cope with demand after thieves destroyed a pay terminal in one of the town's car parks.

The ANPR machine was wrecked when it was targeted by criminals on Sunday evening, leading to long queues for the one remaining device in Liston Car Park outside Waitrose.

But to combat the delays, owner Wycombe District Council plans to relocate one of the machines from Kingsmead Car Park until another can be made.

WDC spokesman Nick Sykes said: “As Liston Road is a busy car park, we propose to relocate a machine out of Kingsmead car park so that Liston Road can be up and running again by early next week.

“The ANPR pay machines have are not off-the-shelf items and have to be built to order.

“Depending on the severity of the damage, sometimes it is only a replacement door or part. On this occasion the machine was effectively destroyed.”

Customers can also pay online up to 24 hours after leaving the car park at www.wdc.veripark.gov.uk or pay via mobile phone via RingGo on arrival into the car park.

Anyone with information on the theft should call police on 101. The crime reference number is 431 500 450 / 07.
