A guided walk and lecture on one of the area’s most famous former inhabitants will take place later this month.

The Marlow Society event will focus on the life and works of celebrated Cookham artist Stanley Spencer, with a talk at Liston Hall on March 24.

The next morning, a guided tour of Spencer’s Cookham will take in many of the sights and landmarks which inspired some of the twentieth century painter’s greatest works.

Both events will be presented by Ann Danks, archivist at the Stanley Spencer Gallery.

She said: "Stanley Spencer was one of the greatest British artists of the Twentieth Century who immortalised his home village of Cookham in his paintings.

"This talk will outline the life and work of this prolific artist and explore the history of the extraordinary gallery founded in his name."

Tickets cost £2.50 for members and £4 for non members. Call 01628 476610 to book.
