Friends who rallied round a new mum diagnosed with cancer while pregnant have praised the generosity of wellwishers who helped raise £8600 at a fundraising event last week.

Over 150 people flocked to the evening at Court Garden on Friday in aid of 32-year-old Nina Langley from Marlow Bottom, who was rushed for an operation to deliver baby Teddy last month.

A silent auction saw a host of expensive items donated to the cause, including a Mulberry handbag which sold for £700.

And close friends of the graphic designer desribed ‘Nina’s Fight Night’ was a “huge success”, adding to the phenomenal £34,000 raised so far in a fund set up by her distraught fiancé Ed Cusick.

Friend Carla Aitchison said: “The event was a huge success especially considering we only had two weeks to plan it.

“The amount raised completely exceeded our expectations and we couldn't have done it without the kindness and support from everyone involved, from donations for the silent auction and raffle prizes, to everyone who attended the event and donated so generously, we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.

“Nina couldn't believe how much was raised in one night and is extremely grateful. The next event is already in the making.”

Nina’s Fight Night saw live music from childhood friends of Nina, The Motion, with raffle and auction winners announced through the night.

A signed Spurs shirt and match tickets fetched £480, with friend and decorator Neil Nyman giving up three days of his time for the cause and raising £475.

Nina – who was unable to attend – said the support from friends and family has been “amazing”.

She said: “I never in a million years did I think I would be in such a horrendous situation, especially at such a beautiful time in my life.

“I am determined to beat this and all of you precious people in my life are the ones pulling me through, especially the greatest support of all, Ed.

“Love you all and thanks a million time over.”

Nina and Ed received the heartbreaking diagnosis when they went into hospital with what the couple thought were pregnancy pains at 34 weeks.

After delivering healthy baby Teddy by caesarean, Nina is preparing to undergo a course of chemotherapy now she has recovered from the surgery.

And the couple hope to use the money for specialised techniques and treatment that may be available to them.

This weekend sees another fundraiser for Nina, with a day of music and prizes at the Hourglass pub in Sands, High Wycombe on Saturday.
